Woodbridge Wears Down University

Sophomore Shane Harris scored one touchdown and rushed for 154 yards in 18 carries to lead Woodbridge to a 31-7 nonleague victory over University Friday night at Irvine High.

Harris scored on an 82-yard run with 49 seconds left in the first half to put Woodbridge ahead to stay, 10-7.

The Warriors (2-0-1) scored 21 unanswered points in the second half to break the game open and take an 8-7 lead in the series with University.

University (0-2-1) was led by quarterback Damian DeFeo, who completed eight of 14 passes for 112 yards.

Woodbridge scored on its first possession of the game. The Warriors advanced to the University 32-yard line before settling for a 48-yard field goal by Steve Terwiske with 7:57 left in the first quarter.

University moved ahead on its next possession. Jacque Newsome scored from four yards out to give the Trojans a 7-3 lead with 2:54 left in the first quarter.

Barlow connected with Oren Masserman on a 31-yard touchdown pass with 7:32 left in the third quarter, putting Woodbridge ahead, 17-7.

Barlow then hit Zach Foster on a 10-yard touchdown pass with 2:43 remaining in the third quarter to give Woodbridge a 24-7 lead.

Woodbridge moved ahead, 31-7, on a four-yard touchdown run by Dustin Berk with 3:03 left in the game.
