Garcia Wins Anaheim Title on Third Hole of Playoff

Hector Garcia won the open division of the Anaheim City Golf Championship on the third playoff hole Sunday at Dad Miller.

It was the second consecutive title for Garcia and the third overall. He won the championship in 1979.

Garcia beat Sherman Oaks’ Mike Turner, who shot a four-under-par 67 to tie Garcia at 141 in the two-day event.

Garcia shot 70 at Dad Miller Sunday after opening with a 71 at Anaheim Hills. Turner shot 74 at Anaheim Hills.

There were nearly 400 in the tournament, including 105 in the championship flight.

Kimberly Driscoll of Laguna Beach won her second national diving title, finishing first in the 13-and-under three-meter event at the National Junior Indoor Championships on Saturday in Federal Way, Wash. Driscoll finished with 309 points.

Former Marina High star Brad Cresse, now at Louisiana State, has been invited to attend the USA Baseball National Team summer camp, which begins June 1 at Hi Corbett Field in Tucson, Ariz.

Cresse will join fellow county invitee Ryan Owens, who was a standout at Sonora and is now at Cal State Fullerton.

Of the 40 players expected to be invited to camp, 29 have been notified. Twenty-two will be chosen and make up the USA National Team, which will compete to qualify for the International Baseball Assn. World Championship tournament, set for July 21-Aug. 2 in Italy.
