Gonzalez Has Elbow Surgery
Right-handed pitcher Jeremi Gonzalez of the Chicago Cubs underwent elbow surgery Friday in Los Angeles. Dr. Lewis Yocum performed the surgery, and team officials said Gonzalez will need six months to recover instead of a year as originally thought.

The St. Louis Cardinals purchased the contract of left-handed pitcher Bryan Eversgerd from triple-A Memphis before Saturday night’s game against Pittsburgh and sent down Manny Aybar, who started Friday in New York.
