Suspended Player Leaving Washington
Mel Miller, a two-year starter at cornerback who had been suspended for the first three games this season, has quit the Washington Huskies and will transfer, Coach Jim Lambright said.
Miller, a junior from Torrance, sat out all of spring drills and training camp and was suspended for academic reasons.
He also had been investigated in connection with an assault on campus that involved two other football players, but was not charged.
Lambright said Miller approached him Tuesday about transferring. Lambright said he waited until Saturday to announce the move publicly to see if Miller would change his mind.
Miller mentioned he was interested in transferring to Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo, a Division I-AA school, Lambright said.
Sophomore Toure Butler, who had been starting in Miller’s place in spring drills, will become the full-time starter, Lambright said.
