Council OKs School’s Move; Suit Planned
This battle royal still isn’t over. Two years after objections were raised, the Los Angeles City Council approved the move Friday of the Archer School for girls from Pacific Palisades into a Sunset Boulevard landmark.
Homeowners and their attorneys, however, vowed to sue the city, saying that the private school’s relocation to the historic Eastern Star Home violates the city’s General Plan, relies on an outdated traffic study and does little to relieve congestion.
Opponents know they face an uphill battle. City Councilwoman Cindy Miscikowski, whose district includes the area, supported the move, along with all of her council colleagues.
Miscikowski said the school has agreed to 50 conditions, including limiting the number of athletic events and outdoor practice sessions to 20 a year.
School supporters, all wearing fashionable black jackets with green stickers bearing the letter “A” on them, said the school will pay $1 million for local street improvements.
