Reagan Forum Hosts Librarian of Congress

Librarian of Congress James Billington will speak at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library on Jan. 7. His address will be the first of the quarterly Reagan Forum series for 1999.

Ronald Reagan appointed Billington to lead the library in 1987. Billington is a noted expert on Russian affairs and advised the Reagans in preparation for the 1988 Moscow summit.

Before his appointment, Billington directed the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington, D.C. He is a former history professor at Princeton University and author of several books.

The world’s largest library, the Library of Congress holds 112 million items. Its original collection of 3,000 volumes was destroyed when British troops burned the U.S. Capitol in 1814.
