In response to Mayor Richard Riordan’s and City Council member Joel Wachs’ Dec. 3 commentary, “Give the Mayor ‘Fire’ Power,” I would go two steps further than having the mayor just being able to fire department heads.

I would like to see the very political, power-grabbing, steppingstone City Council become an advisory board--only. In addition, [create the post of] city manager to be appointed by the mayor.

The City Council advises, the mayor directs and the city manager puts into action. Now, let’s talk about efficiency and where the responsibility lies.
