Cal State Fullerton Announces Signing of Two Track Athletes

Elmo Traylor III, a sprinter and hurdler from Pasadena Muir High, and John Moos, a middle distance runner from Edison, have signed with Cal State Fullerton, track Coach John Elders said Saturday.

Traylor is the Southern California champion in the 300 hurdles and placed fourth Saturday at the state championships at Cerritos College.

Moos was the Sunset League champion and a Southern Section qualifier in the 400 meters.

James Thornton of Foothill High finished the boys’ 500 freestyle in 4 minutes 28.82 seconds, in a race he swam uncontested. He was second in the 200 freestyle (1:40.86), in which one other person swam, at the National High School All-American Swimming & Diving Championships at the Air Force Academy.

Orange County Sports Celebrities announced it is awarding $1,500 scholarships to 13 county seniors. Eight of the recipients are scholar athletes and five are receiving Courage Awards, given to students whose athletic careers were hampered or ended by serious illness or injury.

Scholar athlete award winners are Jessica Dahlberg (El Modena), Cynde Mann (Laguna Hills), Nicole Resch and Elden Krause (Magnolia), James Brown III (Dana Hills), Jeffrey Colton (Garden Grove) and Josh Saul (Calvary Chapel).

Courage Award winners are Stephanie Bisera (Laguna Hills), Gianna Laiola (Rosary), Ryan Jordan (Aliso Niguel), Marcos Encinas (Century) and Cassandra Roussin (Valencia).

Founded in 1972, OCSC has presented more than $650,000 in scholarships and grants to help youth sports.
