Split-Ticket Votes
State Assemblyman Brooks Firestone’s article, “End California’s Split Ticket” (Commentary, June 14), promotes his bill to take away the right of voters to choose our own lieutenant governor.
For 20 years, we Californians have tried to keep our governors’ presidential ambitions in check by electing someone from a different party to step in while they are out of state (or, God forbid, promoted to the White House)!
Firestone’s bill might as well transfer all gubernatorial powers to the lieutenant governor and designate as the only duty of governor the pursuit of the presidency.
