2 Officers Involved in 5-Car Crash
Two police officers called in to direct traffic during a car pursuit Wednesday in Santa Ana were involved in a five-vehicle collision, authorities said.
The driver of the car, Jose Luis Maldonado, 29, of Garden Grove, was taken into custody without incident, and no one involved in the traffic collision was hurt, Santa Ana Police Sgt. Ken Gominsky said.
Gominsky said that about 2:30 p.m., an officer saw a car speeding in the 3200 block of West 5th Street. The officer tried to pull the driver over, but he sped away. As the officer followed, two marked police cars dispatched to redirect traffic during the pursuit collided with two civilian cars and an Orange County Transportation Authority bus near Fairview and 17th streets. The vehicles were slightly damaged.
Maldonado surrendered to police at Warner Avenue and Parton Street, Gominsky said, and was arrested on suspicion of evading police, speeding and violating parole.
