* Hasbro Inc. obtained the rights from Japan’s Nintendo Co. to make and sell toys based on characters from “Pokemon,” an animated TV series that is wildly popular in Japan, for undisclosed terms. The No. 2 U.S. toy maker will make a variety of “Pokemon” toys for sale in the U.S. and other countries outside Asia and expects to begin shipments in the fourth quarter. Nintendo merchandise based on “Pokemon” has generated $4 billion in sales in Japan in the last 18 months.

* Miami-based Ivax Corp. said it will change its name, reorganize its business units and consider selling or spinning off some of them as it focuses on developing proprietary drugs after expanding into the price-competitive generic drug business.

* Roslyn Bancorp, a suburban New York thrift, agreed to buy rival TR Financial Corp. for $1.1 billion in stock. The combined company would be the fourth-largest thrift in New York.
