A 21-year-old Oxnard man was being held in Ventura County Jail on Tuesday on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after a fight at an apartment complex in the 600 block of West Vineyard Avenue, officials said.

The fight broke out about 11 p.m. Monday, when Kevin Jermain Brown allegedly pointed a shotgun at Ramon Juarez, 27, of Oxnard, and threatened to kill him, said Oxnard Police Sgt. T.P. Combs.

After arriving at the complex, officials discovered Brown inside his apartment, where they also found firearms, including a shotgun matching the description given by Juarez. Authorities also seized a small amount of marijuana and about $700 in cash.

Brown, who was on probation for weapons and narcotics laws violations, was taken to jail, where he is being held in lieu of $20,000 bail, a jail clerk said. His arraignment was set for Thursday.

Juarez was not injured.

Officials believe the fight may have been a result of racial or gang problems in the area. A third suspect was released pending further investigation, Combs said.
