UC Irvine Doubles Team Advances in Tournament

Andrew Cheney and Brett Lucas of UC Irvine defeated Cory Guy and Simon Chen of UC Santa Barbara to advance to the doubles quarterfinals of the Southern California Intercollegiates tournament Friday at the Los Angeles Tennis Club.

Cheney and Lucas, who won 8-6, play Brandon Kramer and Jong Minle today.

In nonconference men’s basketball:

Montana State 84, Concordia 73--Guard Josh Giles scored 22 points for Concordia (2-2). Montana State (2-0) jumped out to a 52-36 halftime lead, led by center Nate Holmstadt, who finished with 22 points, eight rebounds and five assists.

Southern California College 77, Hope International 67 (OT)--Steve James gave SCC a 58-57 lead with 22 seconds left in the game, but Hope International hit a free throw to send the game into overtime. SCC (2-2) never trailed in overtime, scoring 19 points.

John Kohlhaas led SCC with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Dennis Keane added 20 points for SCC.

In the Redlands women basketball tournament:

Chapman 71, Willamette University 68--Lyndsay Brown scored a game-high 20 points to help Chapman in the first-round. Stephanie Flazbeard had 14 points and four assists for the Panthers, who play tonight at 8 p.m.

In nonconference women’s basketball:

Southern California College 72, Patten 48--Three players scored in double figures for SCC (2-2). Kelly Boeke scored 16, Sara Herkenhoff had 13 and Kristi Wright scored 10.
