TV Station Puts Anti-Prop. 5 Ads Back on the Air
A television station that pulled a political advertisement off the air because of claims that it was inaccurate has begun broadcasting the 30-second spot again.
Julie Hoover, a spokeswoman for ABC in New York, said KABC-TV Channel 7 in Los Angeles had resumed airing the ad produced by opponents of Proposition 5, the Indian gambling measure on the November ballot.
At issue was the ad’s claim that Proposition 5 would exempt Indian tribes that build casinos from environmental regulations. Supporters of the initiative complained that it would exempt the tribes only from state and local laws, not from federal oversight.
KABC pulled the spot Monday, pending an investigation by lawyers. On Tuesday, ABC cleared the spot for broadcast after a review of documents pertaining to the ad’s claim.
