Rose Bowl Foundation Created to Help Charity
The City Council has approved the creation of a Rose Bowl Foundation to collect and distribute donations to local youth and community groups.
Council members also agreed to award the foundation $97,000, proceeds from the sale of old Rose Bowl benches. The aluminum benches, which are being replaced with theater-style seating, are being sold for scrap metal, city officials said.
The Rose Bowl Operating Co. had been working for months to establish the tax-exempt foundation, which will assist local organizations and provide youth scholarships.
The foundation board will be selected by the Rose Bowl board.
Rose Bowl officials said the Library Foundation, established in 1983, has generated about $3.5 million.
