California Science Center in Los Angeles needs volunteers in education, guest services, special events and to help look after plant and animal exhibits. Training sessions will be held one Saturday per month starting in May. Information: (213) 744-2124.

* House of Ruth needs volunteers for its May Day Garden Tour in the San Gabriel and Pomona valleys Saturday. The tour is a fund-raiser for the House of Ruth, a battered women’s and children’s shelter. Information: (888) 791-5232.

* The city of Inglewood’s Oral History Project needs professional musicians and visual artists, 50 years of age and older, who reside in Inglewood or have at one time, to participate in the project. Initial interviews are taking place this week. Those chosen will be interviewed as part of the project. Also needed will be people to conduct interviews with those artists and musicians. * The Santa Monica BayKeeper needs people to assist in the BeachKeepers, Kelp Reforestation and Storm Drain Monitoring programs and the annual BayWalk event May 22.
