District Leases Laptop Computers for Teachers
In what officials describe as an effort to ignite a technology revolution in Baldwin Park schools, the Board of Education has authorized leasing 800 laptop computers for teachers.
The board last week approved a plan to spend $1.7 million to lease Compaq laptops for three years and make them available to all the district’s 730 teachers, school officials said.
“The board fully understands the need for all teachers to have daily access to technology in order to develop skills and confidence,” said Supt. Susan Parks.
Teachers are expected to receive the computers in May. They will be leased rather than purchased, allowing the district to return them after three years and before the warranty expires, said Mark Skvarna, deputy superintendent of business services.
