Repair of Quiet Oak Creek was completed this week after about 125 volunteers planted scores of plants and trees along the channel.

The greenery will help filter pollutants and fertilizers out of the creek’s water, much of which flows off of streets and lawns in the area.

The volunteer project capped about two weeks of work on the creek that included reshaping banks and moving rocks to curb erosion.

The roughly 300 new plants around the creek should attract wildlife to that small corner of Serrano Creek Park, project organizer Matt Rayl said.

“A lot of the plants produce berries, so we should see a large increase in the local bird population,” said Rayl, founding member of the Serrano Creek Conservancy.
