Teachers and parents have been invited to a free “Artist-in-the-Classroom” expo this week in Camarillo.

The expo, presented by the Ventura County superintendent of schools office, is scheduled from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Cowan Conference Center, 550 Airport Way. Everyone who attends will receive a booklet on arts education.

The Artist-in-the-Classroom program, which began in Ventura County in 1988, is available to local artists who wish to spend eight weeks working with students on visual arts, dance, theater and music. Artists who participate in the program will display their classroom projects and be available for questions.

The program goal is to expose elementary-school-age children to music, pottery, dance and drama. Teachers and administrators have praised the program for teaching youngsters what schools cannot afford to teach.
