Controversial Bible Scholars Will Speak About Jesus

Share

Chapman University will host a program Thursday called “Honest to Jesus: An Evening with the Jesus Seminar,” featuring Robert Funk, founding member of a controversial group of biblical scholars.

The group’s conclusions include findings that not only did Jesus not walk on water, he also didn’t feed flocks of believers with wine and bread, nor did he raise Lazarus from the dead.

Funk, author of “Gospel of Jesus: According to the Jesus Seminar,” is a former Vanderbilt University and University of Montana religion professor.

Another controversial scholar is Lloyd Geering, author of “The World to Come: From Christian Past to Global Future,” and professor emeritus of religious studies at Victoria University in New Zealand.

The Jesus Seminar is part of the “Jesus at Chapman” series this month, which will conclude with an international conference of scholars in November to address “Images of Jesus.”

The Jesus seminar program is free and will begin at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the university’s Irvine Lecture Hall at 333 N. Glassell St. in Orange. Call (714) 997-6636 for more information.
