Military Aviation Deaths Fall in U.S.
Deaths in U.S. military aviation accidents fell this year to 43 from 77 the year before, and the Pentagon’s overall air safety record improved slightly.
In its annual report on military safety, the Pentagon said Thursday that, in a year in which hundreds of U.S. aircraft participated in the 78-day air campaign over Kosovo, it recorded 1.58 major aviation accidents for every 100,000 hours of flying time. That compares with a rate of 1.64 the year before.
The accident count covered the fiscal year that ended Sept. 30.
