A couple were in custody Saturday after Los Angeles County sheriff’s investigators identified them as suspects in the slaying of a Palmdale man whose body was discovered Friday.

Detectives arrested James Wood, 25, and his girlfriend, Sarah Ellis, 20, about 9 p.m. Friday, said Deputy Bruce Thomas. The Palmdale couple were booked on a murder charge and are scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in Antelope Valley Municipal Court.

Acting on an anonymous tip, detectives discovered the body of John Frederick Gailer, 65, about 7 p.m. in an apartment at 38020 11th St. E., Thomas said.

While there, detectives saw Wood and Ellis enter and leave the apartment, and arrested them, sheriff’s deputies said. Gailer knew the couple, Thomas said.

Gailer was allegedly killed after an argument and fight with Wood and Ellis, deputies said. The motive is unknown and the Los Angeles County coroner’s office is investigating the cause of death.
