Board OKs $450,000 to Help Fight Hate Crimes
The Board of Supervisors has approved $450,000 in grants to four local organizations to combat hate crimes.
The money is part of a push by the county’s Human Relations Commission to aid communities that have historically under-reported hate crimes. The grants, which run over three years, will allow each agency to pay for a staff person to concentrate on hate crimes.
The groups receiving the grants are the Asian Pacific American Legal Center, the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center and the Youth Empowerment Project of the Martin Luther King Legacy Assn.
