Santiago Tops La Quinta, 2-0
Brian Pilkington pitched a four-hitter and hit a two-out, two-run home run in the eighth inning as Santiago defeated La Quinta, 2-0, in a Garden Grove League baseball game Wednesday at La Quinta.
The loss was the second in a row for La Quinta, after the Aztecs had opened the season with a school-record 21 consecutive victories, and dropped it to 7-1 in the league, one game ahead of Santiago (12-8, 6-2).
The streak ended last Thursday in a loss to Diamond Bar in the championship game of the Santa Ana Elks tournament.
Pilkington gave up only four singles and did not allow a runner past second base.
Jim Garvey struck out 13 batters, walked three and also gave up four hits in taking his first loss in nine decisions for La Quinta.
