Judge Rejects Request for Lockerbie Trial Delay
A Scottish judge--noting that the defendants already have been held 416 days--on Thursday rejected prosecutors’ request for an eight-week delay in the trial of two Libyans accused in the 1988 bombing of a Pan Am airliner over Lockerbie, Scotland, that killed 270 people.
Prosecutors had argued that they need more time to review 119 new witnesses and additional evidence submitted by the defense last week.
The judge, Lord Sutherland, who has granted two delays sought by the defense since June, ruled that the trial will begin Wednesday as scheduled.
