Police Shoot Parolee After She Flees, Allegedly Pulls Gun
Two police officers on Wednesday shot a fleeing parolee who crashed a car, ran up a driveway and then allegedly pulled a handgun, authorities said.
The woman was airlifted to St. Francis Medical Center and her “wounds do not appear life-threatening at this point,” said Whittier police Lt. Rick Gilliland.
The encounter began about 9:30 a.m. when the two officers recognized the woman, who has an “extensive record” and was wanted on a parole violation, Gilliland said. Her name was withheld by police.
The officers approached the woman, but she allegedly pulled a knife from her purse to hold them at bay, police said. She sped off in her car into a neighborhood.
With the officers in pursuit, she crashed into two cars, a curb and a telephone pole in the 9600 block of La Serna Drive, police said. She ran a block and up a driveway, where she pulled out the handgun and was shot by police. The officers were not hurt.
