Seminole Linebacker Cleared to Play
Florida State senior linebacker Tommy Polley was given medical clearance to play in the second-ranked Seminoles’ opener Saturday against Brigham Young.
Polley’s return comes nearly eight months after he tore a knee ligament in the second quarter of the Sugar Bowl victory over Virginia Tech that gave the Seminoles the national championship. He showed remarkable progress throughout fall practices and has participated in full-contact drills.

Nebraska defensive tackle Loran Kaiser had his appendix removed, but he is expected to play in Sept. 2 opener against San Jose State. Kaiser is one of five defensive starters returning for the top-ranked Cornhuskers. . . . The Black Coaches Assn., concerned about stagnant hiring rates, launched the “Intercollegiate Athletics Minority Hiring Report Card” to monitor how many minority candidates are being considered for jobs by college athletic departments.
