Jewish Event Gets $5 Million for Charities
The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles raised about $5 million Sunday for the needy during a daylong phone-a-thon, a federation spokesman said.
About 2,700 volunteers participating in the annual “Super Sunday” event reached more than 14,000 contributors, who gave more than last year’s total of $4.75 million.
The money will go to United Jewish Funds, which benefits 17 local nonsectarian social service agencies and many international humanitarian causes.
For the first time, the group received donations on the Internet at www.jewishla.org/html/make apledge.html.
