HUNTINGTON BEACH
Hate crimes in the city dropped by nearly 50% last year, an official for a county committee said.
There were 10 reported cases in 1999 compared to 19 the year before, said Rusty Kennedy, executive director for the Orange County Human Relations Commission.
The commission does not differentiate between hate crimes such as verbal and physical assaults and hate incidents, which include legally protected hate speech and literature, he said.
The entire county saw a reduction of intolerant behavior, according to a commission report released this month.
