Greece Pulls Out of NATO Exercise
Greece withdrew most of its forces from a NATO exercise based in Turkey after a heated dispute with its neighbor over military boundaries in the Aegean Sea. The move is a blow to efforts to build friendship between the longtime rivals. Saturday, Turkey blocked Greek jets from participating in the exercise and warned of “undesired results” if Greece persisted in flying over two Aegean islands that Turkey says became “demilitarized zones” under past agreements. Greece says the islands were included in the exercise flight plans.
