Capra Fans

Sept. 1-2, 7-9, 14-16, 21-23

Conejo Players Theater presents “Moon Over Buffalo,” a new play from writer Ken Ludwig, showing at 8 p.m. at 351 S. Moorpark Road, Thousand Oaks. The play follows the antics of a couple who have hopes of starring in a Frank Capra film. The play is directed by Lucien Jervis. Tickets are $10 Thursdays, $12 Fridays and $14 Saturday. High-Flying

Sept. 2-3

The Experimental Aircraft Assn. hosts its 20th annual air show from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Camarillo Airport, 275 Pleasant Valley Road. The event features World War II aircraft, including a B-25 Mitchell bomber, P-51 Mustang fighter, TBM Avenger torpedo bomber, F4U Corsair fighter, Hawker Seafury fighter, A-26 Invader bomber and Trojan T-28 trainer. Other activities include exhibits, pancake breakfast, airplane rides and museum tours. Admission is $5; children under 12 admitted free. Information: 482-0064.

Capturing Reality

Tuesday, Sept. 5

Focus on the Masters presents an evening with painter Connie Jenkins from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Laurel Theater, 1006 E. Main St., Ventura. Jenkins is a realist artist who often paints natural landscapes that parallel the human life cycle on large-scale canvasses. She has a master’s degree in art and has taught painting for more than 25 years. Her paintings deal with birth, death, aging and rebirth. Cost is $8. Information: 649-9366.

Mail Madness

Sept. 8-9, 15-16, 22-23, 29-30

The Gold Coast Center for the Arts presents the play “Hate Mail” at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays in the center’s Backlot Theater, 1408 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd., Thousand Oaks. It deals with Preston Dennis, a dissatisfied customer who wishes to return his snow globe. The play is directed by Raymond Singer. General admission is $20. Information: 497-8606.

Craft Fair

Sunday, Sept. 10

The second annual Conejo Valley Jewish Craft Fair runs from noon to 4 p.m. at Temple Etz Chaim, 1080 Janss Road, Thousand Oaks. There will be more than 40 vendors displaying ceramics, quilts, stained glass, tablecloths, photo albums, jewelry, wood works, dolls, stuffed animals, cards and fine arts. Diversity Program

Monday, Sept. 11

Cal Lutheran University welcomes Nana Kwasi Scott Douglas Morrow and Nanahemaa Brenda Berg-Morrow at 7 p.m. in the Samuelson Chapel, 60 W. Olsen Road, Thousand Oaks. Their program, titled “Realizing the Dream,” is part of the university’s Diversi’Ties program. The pair were the first white people to be installed as chief and queen mother of the Asante Nation in Ghana in 1997. They also produced and directed the award-winning documentary “Of One Blood: Returning Home to Africa.” Information: 493-3323.

Author Talk

Tuesday, Sept. 12

The Ventura County Writers Club presents criminal justice expert and author Robert J. Meadows at 7:30 p.m. at Borders Books, 125 W. Thousand Oaks Blvd., Thousand Oaks. Meadows will talk about writing “What Price for Blood? Murder and Justice in Saudi Arabia,” about a high-profile prosecution of two British nurses accused of murdering another expatriate nurse in Saudi Arabia. The book is an exploration of the Islamic legal system. He wrote two other books, “Fundamentals of Protection and Safety” and “Understanding Violence and Victimization,” and is working on his fourth book. Free. Information: 579-9414.

Endless Summer’s End

Saturday, Sept. 16

The Surfrider Foundation presents the final showing in its Summer Surflick Series with the original “Endless Summer,” introduced by director Bruce Brown, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Ventura High School auditorium, 2155 E. Main St. There will be live music, an explanation of the Surfers Point restoration project and raffle for a longboard and a surf trip. Proceeds from the event benefit the Surfrider Foundation. Intertribal Gathering

Sept. 16-17

The 12th annual “Everything Is Sacred” Native American Intertribal Powwow runs from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Borchard Park, 190 N. Reino Road, Thousand Oaks. The powwow features dancing, singing, food, music, arts, crafts and drumming, all to celebrate the culture and spirit of the indigenous people of the Americas. Free admission and parking. Surf’s Up

Sept. 16-17

The 14th annual California Street Longboard Championships will run from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Surfers Point, off Figueroa Street in Ventura. The two-day event boasts more than 250 contestants and awards surfing equipment to the winners, including a wetsuit and longboard. Free. Proceeds benefit the Stanley’s Reef Foundation. Music Season

Sept. 16-17

Camerata Pacifica opens its Chamber Music Series at 8 p.m. Saturday at Meister Hall at Temple Beth Torah, 7620 Foothill Road, Ventura, and Sunday at the Scherr Forum Theater at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, 2100 Thousand Oaks Blvd. The series opener features works from Mozart, Beethoven and composer-pianist John Field. Book Collectors

Thursday, Sept. 21

The Stagecoach Inn and Museum will hold a lecture on antique books at 1 p.m. at 51 S. Ventu Park Road, Newbury Park. The lecture will address how book values are determined and how to care for and preserve antique books. There will not be time for book appraisals. Art Show

The Buenaventura Art Assn. will hold its 15th annual Juried Competition with an awards reception from 5 to 8 p.m. Sept. 22 at the Buenaventura Gallery, 700 E. Santa Clara St., Ventura. The competition will be judged by George James from Cal State Fullerton. There will be more than $1,100 in cash and prizes. Entries will be accepted from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 17 and 18 only. Performances to Grow On presents its “Pieces of the World” Concert Series, featuring Ojai singer-songwriter Perla Batalla and Friends, at 7:30 p.m. at the Oak Grove Pavilion, 220 W. The event features a re-created 16th-century pirate village, entertainers, merchants, costume contests, treasure hunts, food, drinks and two stages of continuous live entertainment.
