Money Available for AIDS Programs

Share

The Ventura County AIDS Partnership will begin distributing money in January to local organizations to help fund speaker series and educational and patient-support programs.

Area nonprofit agencies can apply for the funds, which will be used throughout 2001. Officials hope to have as much as $150,000 to divide among local AIDS programs, said Virginia Weber, a program manager with the partnership.

Applications are due by Nov. 6, she said.

Money will be awarded to agencies that focus on HIV prevention and AIDS support throughout the county, Weber said.

Martin Perrier, the case manager with AIDS Project Ventura County, said his agency will apply for the funds.

“I think we get a very limited amount of money,” he said. “We do the best we can.”

AIDS Project Ventura County has 80 patients with HIV, some of whom have AIDS, Perrier said.

The grant money would be used to host continuing educational programs, especially among the county’s Latino population, which has the fastest growing rate of AIDS cases, he said.
