Acting Governor Bows Out of Race
New Jersey’s acting Gov. Donald T. DiFrancesco, under fire for his business and real estate dealings, withdrew from the governor’s race.
DiFrancesco, 57, a Republican, withdrew three days after he entered it, and a day after attacking his two opponents as tax profligates.
DiFrancesco made some windfall profits and took questionable loans from key supporters. He borrowed $150,000 from an engineer whose firm received millions of dollars in public contracts and also allowed the state’s largest home builder to pay off a $225,000 debt on a Scotch Plains real estate investment.
