Regime Targets Opposition in Raids

Leading politicians fled into hiding as Pakistan’s military rulers arrested hundreds in a second major clampdown in a month, opposition sources said.
Police and security forces launched raids to stop the 16-party Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy, or ARD, from holding a rally May 1 in Karachi, the opposition said.
A rally planned for the central city of Lahore in March was blocked after security forces detained thousands of activists.
