Sharon Is Accused of War Crimes

Re “8 Killed as Israel Attacks Militant Site,” Aug. 1: Instead of using hollow words to condemn such barbaric attacks on civilians, President Bush should do the following to stop them: Push the Israeli government to stop more than 50 years of Palestinian territory occupation. Stop supplying Israel with high-tech weapons that are used against Palestinian civilians. Treat Prime Minister Ariel Sharon like Slobodan Milosevic, because his brutality against innocent women and children of Sabra and Shatila was not less than whatever Milosevic did in Kosovo. How long this hypocrisy, Mr. President?

The two young Palestinian brothers who died in Nablus are victims of Hamas, not of Israel. As long as Hamas, the Palestinian Authority and other terrorist organizations wage war against Israel from civilian areas, they will bring more death to the people they are supposedly trying to liberate.

Israel’s precision operations are a morally justified response to random terror. It is unfortunate that the nations of the world complain louder about legitimate military measures, carefully planned to minimize civilian casualties, than about operations that aim to murder and maim as many civilians as possible. What could possibly motivate these nations?

What consummate gall for European countries presuming to charge Sharon with war crimes (July 30). This from a continent that has given us such illustrious leaders as Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin and a plethora of scumbags and murderers. Menachem Begin described Europe as the world’s largest Jewish cemetery. While Sharon showed a lapse of judgment in Lebanon, let the Europeans first investigate who is behind Hezbollah and Hamas and who is responsible for the bombing of the Marine Corps barracks, the Saudi Arabian barracks, the Cole and the two U.S. embassies

America approves ethnic cleansing? In some cases. We give Israel $3 billion every year with no end in sight. Israel is taking Palestinian land to build for Jews only. They destroy Palestinian homes at will and control their water, roads, etc.

Monitors must be placed in the occupied areas now--not after years more to think about making a decision. Sharon has said he will talk peace when they accept being occupied.
