Premier Reportedly Will Meet Musharraf in N.Y.
Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee said he will meet with Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf in New York next month to renew peace talks that broke down over the issue of Kashmir during a summit in July, news reports said.
The leaders will be in New York for the U.N. General Assembly, which convenes Sept. 11. They met last month in India but could not reach agreement on Kashmir, the Himalayan region that each of the nuclear rivals claims as its own.
Hindu-majority India controls two-thirds of Kashmir, Pakistan the rest. Islamic militants have been fighting for an independent state or merger with Muslim-majority Pakistan.
