From Times Wire Reports

Police dismantled a commercial van to determine if a defect caused it to lurch out of control, killing seven pedestrians outside of Macy’s in midtown Manhattan. The driver said the gas pedal stuck, police said.

Sidney Weinstein, 76, was questioned and released, with no immediate charges filed. Calls to his home yielded a busy signal.

Weinstein was making a delivery at a shoe store Thursday when a police officer ordered him to move the van, which was double-parked at a bus stop. The van sped up and hit people in the crosswalk. The van then backed into a bus.
