She’s Down and Out, but Not for Long

Share

Victoria Johns, a junior guard and forward at Troy, crumpled to the floor during Troy’s loss to Irvine 10 days ago.

“It absolutely is not a torn ACL [anterior cruciate ligament],” said her mother, Vanessa.

Doctors said last week that Victoria’s injury is probably a torn meniscus or severe bruise. She will likely undergo an MRI examination this week. If it’s a bruise, Vanessa said Victoria would likely be out only two more weeks, but if it’s a meniscus, she could be out three to five weeks.

A SUPER SATURDAY

Rachael Ziemann’s basket at the buzzer tied the score in regulation, and Edison won in overtime against Westminster last Saturday. Carly Wade delivered the same thing in El Dorado’s overtime victory against Diamond Bar. Freshman Teeya Fernandez made two free-throws with three seconds left in overtime to lift Mater Dei to a 45-44 win over Calvary Chapel.

LOOKING AHEAD

In a South Coast League opener, Capistrano Valley plays at San Clemente. The Cougars aren’t the only ones looking to take down a top-10 team tonight. Laguna Hills plays host to No. 6 Woodbridge and Santa Ana Valley hosts No. 10 Foothill.

A Sonora victory at Troy on Friday could go a long way in dethroning the eight-time Freeway League champion.
