Riccio Says Agoura Won’t Lose Another League Game

Agoura High was trounced by host Thousand Oaks, 80-47, in their first-place Marmonte League boys’ showdown on Wednesday night, but the Chargers won’t lose another league game.

Coach Joe Riccio guarantees it.

“We’re going to go back to work,” Riccio said. “And we’re going to finish the [regular season] without a [another] loss.”

Agoura (17-4, 6-2 in league play), the No. 4-ranked team in the region by The Times, has four league games remaining.

The Chargers’ next game is Wednesday at Moorpark. The Musketeers defeated Agoura, 53-48, in the first round of league play.

Whether it was the magnitude of the game or the free T-shirts given to Thousand Oaks students at the door, the crowd at Wednesday’s game was the largest Coach Rich Endres has seen at the school since taking over the program in 1997.

“That’s the best crowd I’ve seen [here] since the days of [Paul] Foster and [Jason] Hartman,” Endres said.

Foster and Hartman were the leading scorers for the 1992-93 Thousand Oaks team that went 26-2 and advanced to the Southern Section Division I-A semifinals.

The status of Dommanic Ingerson of Santa Barbara could influence the Channel League race.

Ingerson, a 6-foot-4 guard who has committed to Michigan, led Santa Barbara (12-9, 2-2) to an 8-0 record in league play last year. But he has been held out of four games this season because of disciplinary reasons and will miss tonight’s game at San Marcos.

Ingerson didn’t play in Santa Barbara’s 57-51 loss to Buena last Friday and he played sparingly, scoring two points, in the Dons’ 44-41 loss to Ventura two days earlier.

“Santa Barbara was the [league] favorite because of Ingerson,” said Coach Dan Larson of first-place Ventura. “They’re a different team without him.”
