The Price of Riley Speaks for Itself

Having Pat Riley [Jan. 21] acknowledge that his success as Laker coach was due mainly to Magic Johnson, et al, didn’t surprise me. Nor did the fact that he hasn’t won a championship since, or that his teams lose more than their share of critical games, or that his ego and stubborn conceit have affected decisions, or that his players have quit on him.

What does surprise me, however, is that he still commands a $35,000 speaker’s fee when addressing gullible executives.
