Former Deputy Held in Fatal Shootout
From Times wire services
A former deputy sheriff described as the “main suspect” in the assassination of a sheriff-elect in Atlanta has been arrested after a fatal shootout with several unidentified men, police said.
Former DeKalb County deputy sheriff Patrick Cuffy, 35, was taken into custody Sunday after he and a friend, Dania Hewitt, allegedly exchanged more than 50 gunshots with the occupants of at least two passing cars outside Cuffy’s home in an Atlanta suburb.
The body of a man who had been shot dead was later found by police.
