Immense Backbone of Dinosaur Found
What may be the largest dinosaur backbone ever found from the largest creature to roam the Earth was airlifted from a remote wilderness area in Big Bend National Park, scientists said.
The 10 pieces of articulated vertebrae measure almost 30 feet long and weigh nearly 10,000 pounds. They are to be shipped to the Dallas Museum of Natural History for study.
Paleontologists think the bones come from the Alamosaurus, a sauropod. It was a long-necked plant-eating creature, 70 to 90 feet long and weighing 30 tons, that lived 65 million to 75 million years ago.
