Pomona Freeway Closed for Shooting Probe
The Pomona Freeway was partially closed for three hours Friday morning as Riverside County sheriff’s deputies investigated an early-morning shooting that left one man in critical condition.
Five young men were driving west about 3:30 a.m. when another car approached, Sheriff’s Sgt. Mark Lohman said. The driver of the second car, described as a young bald black man with a mustache and a goatee wearing a white shirt, opened fire, police said.
Driver Jermaine McCoy, 21, of Las Vegas, was hit but was able to pull over at the Country Village Road and called for help.
Dexter Rideaux, 21, of Los Angeles was taken to a local hospital, where he underwent surgery Friday. He was reported to be in critical condition.
Investigators closed the freeway to look for shell casings and other evidence about 9 a.m. The freeway reopened about noon Friday.
