Anti-Copying Measures Force Viewing of Ads

Television manufacturers’ plan to prevent the copying of digital TV shows is a technique that forces viewers to view the commercials broadcast as part of every TV program [“TV Makers Take a Side on Anti-Piracy Technologies,” May 16].

I copy many TV shows and movies (rather than watch in real time) and watch at my convenience so I can fast-forward through the many commercials that corrupt and interrupt the programs.

The next step is for the business community to persuade the TV makers to eliminate the mute button! If I ever purchase a digital TV set, I will look for one in which the anti-copy technology has not been implemented.
