Rising Prices and Common Sense

Consider the relative impacts on people’s pocketbooks of these three stories in the May 15 business section: “Gasoline Falls 4% as Price Peak Seen,” “Cadillac, Lincoln Ready to Roll With ‘Luxe Trucks’ ” and “L.A., Orange County Home Prices Up 10%.”

As people grouse about the price of gasoline, Detroit comes out with two new monsters that get only 12 to 17 mpg. Real smart, eh?

The one-year increases in home prices in L.A. and Orange counties would buy 5,000 and 13,000 gallons, respectively, of $2 gasoline.
