Man Held in Slayings of 6 Red Cross Workers
Ugandan soldiers have arrested a Lendu warrior in the slayings of six Red Cross workers in Congo.
Maj. Gen. Jeje Odongo, head of the Ugandan army, which controls parts of northeastern Congo, confirmed a newspaper report that said the motive of the attack was robbery. The government-owned New Vision newspaper said Dongo Chuga, a fighter from the Lendu ethnic group, had confessed.
Four Congolese, one Swiss and one Colombian worker from the International Committee of the Red Cross were shot and hacked to death while delivering medicine to a health center April 26.
