Applause for Lifschitz

Share

Your usually reliable critic Daniel Cariaga had it all wrong in his review of the Konstantin Lifschitz piano recital at UCLA (“Lifschitz Makes Some Musical Miscalculations,” Oct. 15).

Mr. Lifschitz is not a brilliant technician, but his control of dynamics and his generosity are certainly to be praised. I found his fortes to be thrilling and well shaded. The length of his program may have added to Mr. Cariaga’s chore, but for many in the audience, the musician seemed to want to give and give. What’s wrong with that?
