California’s campaign to slash electricity use during last year’s energy crisis cut overall consumption by 6.7% and peak demand in summer--when hundreds of hours of blackouts were feared but none occurred--by 10%, a state report said Tuesday.

The report, issued by Gov. Gray Davis, said that by last June a blend of conservation actions, including consumer rebates and more efficient building standards, had reduced demand by about 5,570 megawatts. The savings rose to more than 6,300 megawatts by October.
