Inmate Beaten to Death at Detention Center

An inmate at Pitchess Detention Center near Castaic died after being beaten by a fellow prisoner, authorities said Tuesday.
Samuel Sutherland, 35, faces a murder charge for allegedly beating and kicking the other inmate late Monday afternoon, Sheriff’s Deputy Alba Harrison said.
The victim, who was not identified pending notification of family, was declared dead at a local hospital, Harrison said.
