A former state prison guard was sentenced Tuesday to 2 1/2 years behind bars for bringing marijuana into the prison.

Anthony Lunnon, 43, of Lancaster was caught during an undercover drug sting at the Lancaster prison and admitted to taking marijuana there at least 20 times last year, Deputy Dist. Atty. Max Huntsman said.

Investigators in the sting met Lunnon at a Food for Less supermarket near the prison and gave him methamphetamines and marijuana to deliver to an officer posing as an inmate in the California State Prison where Lunnon worked.

After his arrest, Lunnon admitted that he regularly delivered drugs to another inmate in the prison.

“Corruption at the prison is a constant thing, and so are our investigations,” said Huntsman, a member of the district attorney’s newly expanded Justice System Integrity Division.

Lunnon was fired shortly after his arrest in October. He pleaded guilty to one charge of taking a controlled substance into the jail and attempting to sell methamphetamines, Huntsman said.
